BIO: Tanuja Desai Hidier is an award-winning author, singer-songwriter, and innovator of the ‘booktrack’ (albums of original songs to accompany her novels). Her groundbreaking 2002 first novel, BORN CONFUSED– considered to be the first ever Asian/South Asian American coming of age/YA novel, and its heroine Dimple Lala, the first such character (both celebrate their 15th birthday this year)–was named an American Library Association Best Book for Young Adults and was recently hailed by Rolling Stone Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, and Paste Magazine as one of the greatest YA novels of all time (on lists including classics such as To Kill a Mockingbird, The Catcher in the Rye, Little Women, and Harry Potter). Her adult/crossover sequel BOMBAY BLUES received the 2015 South Asia Book Award. The music video for “Heptanesia”, from BOMBAY SPLEEN (Tanuja’s album based on Bombay Blues) is airing on MTV Indies. Her first album, WHEN WE WERE TWINS (songs based on Born Confused) was featured in Wired for being the first ever ‘booktrack’. She is currently at work on her next book and album as well as the DEEP BLUE SHE music video/PSA: a grassroots female/human/LGBTQ+ empowerment and racial/gender equality project for her Bombay Spleen song “Deep Blue She”. http://www.ThisIsTanuja.com.
