691: Day-long author residency and set of books from Sita Brahmachari in the Grenfell Tower area

ITEM: Sita Brahmachari would like to offer a day-long creative writing residency on the theme of ‘sanctuary’ to a school in the area around Grenfell Tower. (Year’s 6 or 7)

DETAILS: A free class set (30 copies of Tender Earth supplied by Macmillan Children’s Books endorsed by Amnesty International will be donated to each student/ attendee.

BIO: Sita Brahmachari is the highly acclaimed author of Artichoke Hearts which won the Waterstone’s Children’s Book Prize 2011, was chosen for The Book Trust’s Booked Up scheme and also nominated for the Carnegie Prize 2012. Jasmine Skies was nominated for the Carnegie Prize 2013 and selected as a Recommended Read by The School Library Association. Her third novel Kite Spirit has been successfully recorded in audio format by actress Juliet Stevenson. Her most recent novels Red Leaves and Tender Earth are endorsed by Amnesty International and has contributed to the acclaimed collection Here I Stand and other anthologies including those raising funds for Crisis. Sita is writer in residence for Islington Centre for Refugees and Migrants and is an Amnesty Ambassador for the rights of young people.

WHO CAN BID: The residency is intended for comprehensive schools in Kensington and Chelsea Ladbroke Grove and The Westway area who have taken in students from the Grenfell Tower area. Anyone wishing to support teachers, parents and communities in this area may bid.

  1. Unlikely I know, but if no-one sees this in time to bid could our very mixed school in Wood Green bid please? It would be perfect!
