492: Contribute an illustration to Exquisite, a book edited by Gavin Edwards (Penguin Books USA, 2018)

ITEM: The opportunity to contribute an illustration to Exquisite, a book edited by Gavin Edwards to be published by Penguin Books in the USA in 2018.

DETAILS: Exquisite is an adult-creativity book based on the surrealist game of “exquisite corpse” played by the likes of Marcel Duchamp and Andre Breton. Each page will feature a pen-and-ink drawing by a different artist, including illustrators of New Yorker covers, Eisner-winning cartoonists, and even members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. For a talented artist who just needs a cool and prestigious venue to show off his or her abilities—–maybe you, maybe a loved one–this could be a unique opportunity. And because an exquisite corpse is a partial drawing that is finished by the next artist (in this case, the owner of the book), you would be engaging in a long-distance collaboration with thousands of book buyers.

(Disclaimer: technically, you are bidding on the right to submit an illustration to the book, not a guarantee that you will appear in the book. While Gavin very much wants the winning bidder to appear in the book, he needs art that will fit the book’’s specifications (e.g., the proper dimensions) and parameters (e.g., not obscene, not stick figures, not obscene stick figures).)

BIO: Gavin Edwards is the New York Times-bestselling author of nine books, from ‘Scuse Me While I Kiss This Guy and Other Misheard Lyrics to The Tao of Bill Murray: Real-Life Stories of Joy, Enlightenment, and Party Crashing. In the name of journalism, he has entered a demolition derby, participated in the world’s largest tomato fight, and gone to the Grammys on a city bus.

WHO CAN BID: Worldwide.
