ITEM: School visit from television writer Furquan Akhtar

DETAILS:  Happy to talk to children about writing for TV and my experience at CBBC and CBeebies.

BIO: Furquan Akhtar is the winner of the BBC’s prestigious Alfred Bradley Bursary Award (2013-14) as well as a Broadcast “Hot Shot” (2014) and a Guardian Newspaper “One to Watch” (2012). Furquan is also part of Channel 4’s “Commissioning Network” (2016-17) and Prolific North named Furquan as one of the top writers in the North (2017).

After developing his editorial skills at Coronation Street and Hollyoaks; Furquan took the leap to pursue his own writing. Furquan has recently written an episode for series 5 of CBBC’s The Dumping Ground and is currently developing series 6; as well as working on a new show for CBeebies. He has also written two episodes for series four of CBBC’s hit teen drama Wolfblood.

Furquan is developing a comedy drama with Hat Trick Productions and a sitcom for Retort. He also has a passion for Radio Drama and has written two well received afternoon plays; Shamed and most recently Brotherhood. Furquan is also developing a stage play for the Bolton Octagon as well as being a “Writer in attachment” for the Box of Tricks Theatre Company.

  1. Hello Furquan! I would love for you to come to my school in Atherton to talk with the children about your experiences as a writer and to inspire them to go further with their writing. I think they would love this experience and would be so beneficial for my school, as many children come from disadvantaged backgrounds.
    You’ve done so much around writing and the media, which is something I believe the children at my school would love to hear all about. I know lots of the older children watch WolfBlood, so to know that you wrote the screen plays, they would be so excited! I look forward to hearing back from you ☺️
